Your Brain Is Keeping You From Building Wealth

These 6 questions will help

I made an observation this week.

Last week, I started a $1,000,000 breakdown series on Instagram, where I answer approximately how long it will take someone to become a millionaire based on where they live and their salary. At the end of the first few videos, I asked “do you think this is doable?” and the comment section was riddled with reasons why it was “unrealistic” or why it wouldn’t work because of factors X and Y.

My intention for the series was to show how simple (not necessarily easy) it is for you to become a millionaire in your lifetime, even with median incomes. So reading these comments felt like I wasn’t accomplishing my goal.

I stopped asking that question because to be frank, it’s always possible — at least hypothetically, and my goal is to turn people’s attention to the possibility, not their limitations.

What I didn’t clearly realize until this week is that there is a HUGE obstacle in between the possibility of becoming a millionaire and some of you. The obstacle is so big that some of you can’t accept the possibility even after someone takes the time to break it down for you.

What’s the obstacle? Your brain. Let me explain.

Your Brain is at Capacity

There’s a psychological phenomenon called inattentional blindness which is based on the invisible gorilla experiment, which shows how difficult of a task it is for us to notice something very obvious when our attention is fixed on a demanding task.

For example, did you notice the gorilla in the CT image above?

When our minds are fixated on something, our brains put up blinders to anything aside from that task.

When it comes to the possibility of reaching $1,000,000, there is usually resistance to the path forward when it involves having lower expenses or a higher income than one currently has.

Because one’s attention is fixed on their limitations, they are blinded to the possibly of anything different to what they know to be currently true because it’s all their brain is capable of focusing on.

Because I believe in you and care enough to challenge your brain’s inability to focus on the possibilities, I stopped asking you guys “is it doable” because that question inadvertently turns your attention to your limitations.

Instead, I now ask,

“If I were to give you $1,000,000 dollars to reach $1,000,000, how would you do it?

This question will help you expand your awareness to the possibilities.

These Questions Will Help

Here are some other questions that can help make space for your brain to consider the possibility of becoming a millionaire:

“If I had no other option but to become a millionaire, how would I do it?”

“How have people with similar limitations and obstacles as me reached $1M?”

“How long would it take me to become a millionaire despite my current limitations and obstacles?”

“How might I overcome my obstacle so that I can reach $1M?”

“What would it feel like for me to have $1M to my name?”

So — If I were to give you $1,000,000 dollars to reach $1,000,000 in your lifetime, how would you make it happen? Let me know in the comments
